Chatter #239 Noah and the Dove

“Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; but the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark…then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark…and again he sent forth the dove…”

Noah had been shut up in the ark for almost eight months. The waters outside were continuing to recede, but was it safe to go out into the world? Hoping for dry ground and a return to solid ground, Noah released a dove. He released a raven and it did not come back. Testimony that the waters no longer covered everything. Next, he released a dove. Doves spend a good deal of their life on the ground, some nest there. The dove found no resting place and returned.

The world was no better after the flood than before. Mankind survived. Man is the single greatest plague ever to trouble the earth. Man has the potential for great good. With his intellect, reasoning and creative powers, Man can make Earth a biological paradise. Unfortunately, Man also has the potential for great evil and destruction. The path he has chosen is clear. War, famine, pestilence, and Death ride over the face of the ground.

It seems there is no rest, no safe place to set foot on the earth. The power to arrest the destruction Man has unleashed is not found in laws, governments, rights movements, or political theories. It is not to be found in churches, synagogues or mosques, nor in denominations, sects, creeds, nor coexisting groups sitting around the campfire singing Kumbaya. The sole hope for the world and its population lives in a single pair of hands…yours.

The choice of a better world for all mankind lies in the hands, heart, and mind of each individual. The Bible calls on every man to break from conformity to the world as it is and be transformed by renewing of his mind. This is not New Age thinking…it is Old Age thinking. This is thinking from creation. Think about it for a moment. God made Man in His likeness…a creator, an innovator, a maker of worlds. He gave Man dominion over the Earth and everything in it…to “dress it and to keep it.” Man had virtually a free hand to have fun.

When Jesus told men that they could move mountains or pluck up trees with a word or that men could do greater works than he demonstrated, he was not using hyperbole, metaphor or parables. This power is not hidden by God, but it is overlooked by mankind. It takes but one thing, faith. Simply believing what we have been told and what experience teaches. As a man thinks in his heart, so he is…that, my friends is faith at work.

Some people kick at that “what we have been told” part, even though most of their knowledge rests solely on what they have been told by others. Fear of religion is the greatest roadblock to the full development of the spirit. Religion is focusing on the goal divine fellowship and the actions related to achieving that goal…not a church or a denomination, or a book or a creed. A truth overlooked by people trying to sound spiritually wise.

Do not fear, God encourages experimentation.“Taste and see…” or “prove me now…” You don’t need a church for that. That is not to say churches are good or bad, only that you can find God on your own if you really look and are not afraid of what you find. Chances are when you really find God, you will seek out like-minded people…many of them are hiding in plain sight in a church. The point is God and the devil are not hard to find, and as the old television show said, “The truth is out there.” All you have to do is look.

What’s this have to do with the dove and saving the world, you ask?

Just this, we are free to fly off on our own like the raven and ignore everyone and everything else. We can hide in the safety of our comfortable place with our eyes closed and hope for the best. The third alternative is that we can touch the hand that released us, return with an olive branch, and go live as we are designed to live. As always, the choice is ours, but only one option will save us.
